Vacancy - Voluntary chair of board for Sanctus - deadline for applications 12 July
Sanctus provides support for refugees and people who are seeking asylum in the UK.We aim to walk alongside people who find their way to us, from all around the world, in a non-judgmental and safe environment.Refugees and asylum seekers in Stoke-on-Trent are invited to attend one of the drop-in centres for a listening ear, a friendly face, help with bureaucracy, emergency accommodation and assistance with food, baby equipment, English language lessons, translation services - and spiritual care. It is presently based at St. Marks church Shelton and in community facilities at Longton.
Sanctus cic was established in 2014 as a Community Interest Company – CIC - and is presently registered with Companies House. The Board of Directors/Trustees presently has eight members which include the posts of Chair, Managing Director, Treasurer and Board Secretary.
In June 2019 the Board determined to change its status to that of an Unincorporated Association instead of a CIC and then apply to join the Mercian Community Trust – MCT – and thus obtain access to the MCT’s charitable status to secure the relevant benefits thereof.
The Board holds four formal meetings per annum, with one extra away-day for planning purposes, and works on the basis of formal agendas, minutes and associated papers being available to all Board members. It operates within the principles of good Corporate Governance and its formal responsibilities.
We are looking for someone who shares our passion for making a difference to the lives of refugees and asylum seekers, and who has experience in a senior executive role in the charity sector.
Using your strong leadership skills and experience of charity governance, you will steer the Board in meeting its strategic aims and objectives.
